Casablanca is the biggest city in Morocco, the economic capital and has a lot to offer every visitor. Most people skip it for no reason. In Casablanca you can spend a very special day (or even a couple of days) exploring cultural or historical sites or watch life as it is lived. Guides and paid-for tours are not worth the money as the city is easy to navigate and safe; in any case, they won't have anything more to tell you than a good guidebook. In addition, many of the attractions are within walking distance of each other and those that are not are reachable by tram, train or petit taxi. The major attraction is the Hassan ll Mosque. There are guided tours until 2pm every day except Friday The must-see things to explore and experience in Casablanca are :-Villa des Arts -Musee Abderrahman Slaoui -Corniche/Ain Diab-Rialto Cinema and the surrounding area for Art Nouveau and Deco architecture
-Le Petit Poucet for a slice of nostalgia -Museum of Moroccan Judaism-Marche Centrale -Parc de la Ligue Arabe -City Hall and Square Mohamed V
-Habous (New Medina) -Old Medina-Place Nations Unies (for a coffee at Cafe de France or Cafe Ramses to watch the old and the new Morocco go past)
For day trips from Casablanca which can and should be done independently:- Rabat, the political capital to see the Hassan Tower, Kasbah De Oudayas, Chellah and the City Centre.
- El Jadida: Casablanca to El Jadida is a one hour drive down the motorway or 70 minutes by comfortable train. There's a big new AI resort there now a few miles outside town (yuk) as well as a golf course, the Portuguese City with its fabulous walls and ramparts and the Cistern. There are good beaches in El Jadida too.
- Azemmour, on the Oum Er-Rabia river. You really need a car for here as the station is a couple of km out of town. There is a fantastic view of the town by the river from the RN road bridge and from the motorway. There's a walled city to explore. There's a good beach too, but it's a couple of km from the centre.
Don't be tempted by offers of commercial day tours to Marrakech, Meknes or Fez from Casablanca. None of these places is a day tour destination as there is too much to see in them and the journey times there and back make the whole experience worthless and tiring.
